Details of the Flight

Seven people were taken to the hospital after a Cape Air passenger plane went off the runway while landing and crashed into the woods Thursday afternoon at Provincetown Municipal Airport.

The six passengers and a pilot onboard Flight 2072 were taken by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital, according to Cape Air, after the crash at about 3:30 p.m.

Cape Air confirmed that Flight 2072, a twin-engine Cessna 402, was traveling from Logan International Airport in Boston to Provincetown when the “plane exited the runway” and went into the woods. No further information was made available.

The plane crash occurred about halfway between the intersection of Race Point Road and Province Lands Road and the Race Point Ranger Station, based on the position of emergency vehicles and flashing lights on the two-lane road and from eyewitness accounts. Provincetown police and Cape Cod National Seashore rangers stopped traffic access at the intersection.

There is an ongoing investigation by the NTSB as to the cause of the crash.
