Brian W. Coffman
Founder & Managing Attorney
Brian W. Coffman is the founder of Coffman Law Offices, P.C. where he represents individuals and families in serious personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, aviation, and transportation cases. For more than two decades, Brian has handled complex litigation involving catastrophic injuries and wrongful deaths throughout the country.
Brian and his team have obtained numerous multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements on behalf of their clients. His practice is built around thorough investigation, aggressive advocacy, and a willingness to take on difficult cases against powerful defendants, corporations, insurance companies, and governmental entities.
One of Brian’s most notable cases involved the family of Cedrick Chatman, a 17-year-old who was unarmed when he was fatally shot by a Chicago police officer in broad daylight on January 7, 2013. Brian’s persistent efforts helped uncover video evidence of the shooting that had not initially been made public. The case received significant national attention and became part of the broader discussion surrounding transparency and police accountability in Chicago. The case ultimately resulted in a $3 million settlement for Cedrick’s family.
In another significant medical malpractice case, Brian obtained a $19.5 million settlement on behalf of a 56-year-old man who suffered a devastating hypoxic brain injury following complications during a tracheostomy exchange. The client had been admitted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital on a ventilator with sepsis and acute hypoxemic respiratory failure after previously being treated for a pulmonary embolism at Lake Forest Hospital. Following the procedure, he suffered a hypoxic brain injury and was later diagnosed with Lance-Adams Syndrome. The settlement provided critical resources for his future medical care and long-term needs.
Brian also recovered $1 million on behalf of a 58-year-old Chicago woman who was seriously injured in a head-on collision after another driver crossed the centerline. The case was litigated for more than a decade and involved two appeals to the Illinois Appellate Court, First District. Brian continued pursuing the case through years of litigation and ultimately secured a life-changing recovery for his client.
Throughout his career, Brian has represented clients in a wide range of serious injury and wrongful death matters, including automobile and trucking collisions, transportation disasters, medical negligence, premises liability, negligent security, and other catastrophic injury cases.
Beyond his work for individual clients, Brian is committed to the advancement of the trial bar and the legal profession. He is a member of the American Association for Justice and is active with the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association. He also maintains memberships in the Illinois State Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association, and Lawyers Club of Chicago.
At the center of Brian’s practice is a straightforward belief: people who have suffered life-changing injuries deserve an advocate willing to stand with them for as long as it takes.
